Used Windows XP Laptop
Windows XP is a set of operating systems introduced by Microsoft for use on desktops, notebook computers, as well as media centers. It was launched in October 2001 succeeding the Windows 2000 Professional and Windows ME. It is estimated that in less than five years from its launch, 400 million copies were in use. The most popular of these operating systems are Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional. In November 2006, XP's replacement, Windows Vista, was introduced to volume customers. In January of the following year, it was released to the general public.
By the time Windows Vista was released XP had captured 85% of the OS market. As of February 2009, 65% of all personal computers still use it. This share is slowly decreasing because most new computers sold are now pre-installed with Windows Vista. This means that for those who are looking for reconditioned, refurbished, or used notebook computers with Windows XP operating systems, there are plenty that are available for sale. Indeed, there is a considerable number of websites on the Internet offering used laptops of all makes and models at prices of up to 50% of the brand new price. These often come with warranties from 6 to 24 months depending on the model, and with a return policy as well.
Reconditioned, refurbished, or used Windows XP laptops are a good alternative to brand new units, especially if budget is an issue. It is advisable, however, that you choose a laptop that has been reconditioned or refurbished by the manufacturer. Unless a third party refurbished offers the same warranties as the manufacturers, it is best to avoid them. There are often a lot of notebook computers labeled as reconditioned or used simply because they have been returned by a previous buyer for some minor problem, which has been fixed by the manufacturer. The law, however, prohibits selling such units as brand new. Thus, they will have to be sold as "used", giving savvy buyers the opportunity to buy them at substantially lower prices.
